History of the Inn

The site of the Brookstown Inn was first the home of Salem Manufacturing Company, a mill constructed in 1837 by Francis Fries. Over the years, this mill changed names and owners and had its fair share of hard times, but it continued as a milling company until 1942 when it became warehouse space.

In 1978 the Brookstown Rehabilitation project began. The space started out as a 41 room inn with restaurant space in 1984 and in 1991 an additional 30 rooms were added. In 2013, we began new renovations of our Main Building creating the Brookstown that we all know and love. We invite you to learn more about our Inn’s history during your stay at our History Exhibit located in our lobby.

I was looking for a weekend getaway for the family and this was just the place. What a beautiful historic structure! They really put a lot of attention into making the place welcoming and presentable.

My two grown daughters and I stayed here for a family get away in July 2022. I loved the living history at the hotel. So much to learn about the mill and the people who worked in it. Staying here was a very unique experience. The hotel is beautiful and charming. We chose to stay on 4th floor where the rooms are more authentic to the cotton mill.

We hosted our wedding at the Brookstown Inn and had the best experience we could have asked for. Loved working with the staff every step of the way. Everything was such a smooth process from the “big picture” stuff to the small details and timeline considerations.
