Explore Winston-Salem, NC

Winston-Salem is an exceptional city with abundant attractions to accommodate anyone’s needs. Known as the City of Arts & Innovation, our city is recognized for its commitment to the arts, healthcare, and technology. We are grateful to call Winston-Salem our home and are excited to give you a taste of the fun things you can do during your visit to our beautiful and historic city.

Welcome to Winston-Salem, NC!

Established in 1766, Old Salem is our city’s most well-known historic district established in 1766 featuring a living history museum with plenty of activities and shopping. The best part is they are only footsteps away from our property! We thank Old Salem Museums & Gardens for their support of the Historic Brookstown Inn and for being a favorite destination for our guests. Check out our hotel package page for seasonal getaway offers to Old Salem.

Winston-Salem is also the home of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Texas Pete, Reynolda House Museum of American Art, and RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.  Its vast Arts District includes MESDA, Piedmont Opera, Milton Rhodes Art Center, and SECCA just to name a few as well many great local art galleries and shops.

If you’re hungry the city’s local restaurants will be sure to please every taste bud! Our variety of eateries range from Mexican to Asian Fusion and from Hotdogs to BBQ; the city is filled with bars and breweries such as Foothills and nearby are the abundant Yadkin Valley Wineries. For those with a sweet tooth visit Winkler’s Bakery in Old Salem to experience Moravian Sugar Cake or try the thinnest Moravian sugar cookies. For a more traditional slice of cake visit another local favorite – Dewey’s Bakery (we hear that on Mondays you can receive a free cake square of your choice).

For those who want minimal travel when dining during their stay, the Historic Brookstown Inn is located next-door to Meridian Restaurant and across the street from Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant, ByGood Coffee, and Senor Bravo Mexican Restaurant. If you’re looking for coffee and a treat, we are right down the street from Camino Brookstown!

Want to try them all? Check out Taste Carolina. Enjoy a gourmet food tour of multiple local restaurants in Winston-Salem. Eat. Drink. Walk.

Going to a game with our local baseball team, the Winston-Salem Dash, could be a home run or try shopping at one of the many shopping areas in our city such as Reynolda Village and Thruway Shopping Center.

Children can enjoy the Kaleideum Downtown (formerly Children’s Museum), ARTivity on the Green, North Kaleideum (formerly Sciworks),  Winston Waterworks, or the many parks that are peppered throughout the city.

For the urban adventurer, Winston-Salem has 25 miles of greenways, incorporating paved and unpaved trails, boardwalks, and bridges. Some of our greenways connect to each other, enabling longer excursions. The Downtown Winston-Salem Strollway runs from Fourth Street to the Old Salem Visitors Center and Salem Avenue, which you can conveniently hop on from Brookstown Avenue! Click for here maps and information.

Our city is growing and changing every day so be sure to talk to our team if you’re looking for more activity ideas. Its character will please any age!

Check out the Winston-Salem’s Visitors Center website for even more local information, including specific places to visit and a comprehensive restaurant guide.
